Fabien Roussel, the communist candidate for the presidential election, is betting on a program rooted in social

« You don’t have to be a communist to vote for Fabien Roussel » : here is the last slogan of the candidate of the French Communist Party (PCF). Between now and his first major meeting of the year, on Sunday February 6 in Marseilles, the deputy from the North intends to broaden his base, which for the moment confines him to the last places in the polls. With this in mind, he was to present his program, Monday, January 24, from the historic headquarters of the party, place du Colonel-Fabien, in Paris. Fueled by contributions collected at public meetings, discussions at the national council of the PCF, this program written under the leadership of Christian Picquet (member of the management, former Left Front) reflects the priorities of the candidate. Even if nationalizations are legion in this program (SNCF, EDF, Engie, La Poste and  » France Telecom « ), the word « communism » hardly appears, except to evoke the deputies “Communists”.  » Job « , on the other hand, comes back more than a hundred times. « I defend a France of work and with a good salary rather than a France of unemployment with social assistance », repeated Fabien Roussel again on Saturday January 22, in the 1 p.m. newspaper of TF1.

Fabien Roussel also proposes a moratorium on social plans and layoffs. And their cancellation under the authority of the prefects in the event of distribution of dividends. In terms of public services, the hospital and the school concentrate many promises. 100% coverage of care, generalized third-party payment, end of activity-based financing in hospitals… Mr. Roussel also promises health establishments within thirty minutes of transport and a public service for the elderly.

A policy of “public tranquility”

Very popular with its competitors on the left (Yannick Jadot, Jean-Luc Mélenchon), the question of the legalization of cannabis is referred to the holding of“a democratic debate”. At school, finished homework: the candidate proposes to increase school time « without increasing the working time », thanks to supernumerary teachers. He advocates a 45% increase in the national education budget and 90,000 jobs. Moreover, for all civil servants “the index point will be revalued by at least 30%”. In total, these are 500,000 new public jobs, including 100,000 for the hospital, but also 15,000 teacher-researchers, 25,000 magistrates and educators for juvenile justice.
