At least one person was killed in an accident in a Siberian mine and 48 others are missing. 237 people were brought to the surface and 45 were injured, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said.

Forty-eight people are missing, stranded inside a Siberian coal mine after an accident that left at least one dead, Russian authorities said on November 25.

“Rescue operations at the Listviajnaya mine are underway. A total of 237 people were brought to the surface, 45 people were injured. Forty-eight people remain in the mine, ”the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations told Telegram. One person died, according to the governor of the region.

“Forty-eight people are still in the mine. The forces and resources of the ministry are working on the spot ”, continued this organization in charge in particular of firefighters and first aiders. « Their location is not known at present, » said the local ministry official, Alexeï Choulguine, quoted by the Russian press agency TASS.

The press service of the governor of the Kemerovo region, where the mine is located, for its part indicated on Telegram that 43 people had been hospitalized, including two in « serious condition, and that one person was » dead « .

According to this source, eleven specialized rescue teams from the ministry are on site and several others are on their way, in addition to a helicopter with doctors on board. The precise causes of the accident were not immediately known.

The deadliest accident in recent years left 91 dead and more than 100 injured in May 2010 in the Raspadskaya mine, in the Kemerovo region, where there are many coal mines.
